Defensive Driving
6-Hour Course Reduces Insurance Premiums & Points
AAA's Defensive Driving course provides drivers with tips and techniques on how to be safer drivers by reducing risk through proper management of visibility, time, and space, how to handle emergencies, and driver and passenger safety.
Licensed drivers receive a certificate upon completion that can lower portions of their insurance premium by up to 10% for 3 years as well as reduce up to 4 points from their driving record for moving violations within the last 18 months.
You can take this 6-hour course in a classroom near you or online. There is no final exam.
- Classroom Course. Take one 6-hour session or two 3-hour sessions. View classroom locations and schedules below.
- Online Course. You have 30 days from your registration date to complete the course, and you can stop and resume at your convenience. Your certificate is mailed to you upon completion.

The 10% reduction on the Collision, Liability, and No-Fault portions of your auto and motorcycle insurance is good for up to 3 years, after which you may take the course again to maintain the discount.
Point reduction applies only to points assessed for violations that occurred within the 18 months immediately before course completion. It does not affect points for earlier violations, and cannot be used as "credit" against future violations or points. If your license has already been revoked or suspended, or if a violation hearing has already been scheduled, point reduction will not affect that action.
