When Laurie Hurd turned 65 last August, she thought she had her Medicare plans figured out. With a career background working with insurance, Laurie felt somewhat prepared for the transition. However, a surprising phone call from AAA Medicare Insurance Advisor David Kamholz changed everything.

“I had already set up an appointment with [another Medicare consultation service] who would charge me $100 a session just to give me information,” Laurie said. “Then David called and introduced himself, saying this was a service from AAA.”

Initially skeptical, Laurie’s perspective quickly changed when her original appointment was unexpectedly cancelled. “I reached out to David again through AAA. I asked about the cost, expecting it to be similar to what I was going to pay before. When he told me it was free, I was confused. I couldn't understand how it could be better and not cost anything.”

David’s expertise and approach impressed Laurie immensely. “He was fantastic. He said, ‘Laurie, I’ll tell you everything. I’m not making decisions for you, I’m just here to explain.’ He answered all my questions and explained everything clearly.”

The scope of AAA’s Medicare service became even more apparent when Laurie’s husband Donald needed to transition to Medicare as well. “My husband was on my insurance, and now he had to pick up his Part B plan,” she said. “I asked David if he could look at my husband’s situation too, as he has different medical issues.”

David’s thorough approach stood out to Laurie and Donald. “He picked out plans with PPO options for us, ensuring we had out-of-network coverage for when we’re in Florida during the winter,” Laurie said. “He made sure our doctors were in-network and advised us on how to look at plans that cover our needs.”

What impressed Laurie most was David’s honesty and client-first approach. “He actually found that my husband had a better plan already,” she said. “They were honest that they couldn’t beat what he had, which is exactly what they preach they do. I’ve been telling my friends, ‘You need to call AAA for your Medicare plan each year,’” she said.
