Gas prices are down across the region this week. The overseas war zone is quiet while Atlantic storms are also holding off, which is taking pressure off of oil prices. This morning, oil prices are below $80 per barrel. That’s giving drivers some relief at the pump. According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand edged higher slightly. But overall mild gasoline demand, steady supply, and low oil costs may cause pump prices to slide further. Demand will likely increase this week as travelers head out for the final long holiday weekend of summer.

To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
