Worth the Drive: Six Flags Darien Lake
As we cruise into the early fall, there’s no better place to celebrate the closing of summer than Six Flags Darien Lake, New York’s ultimate theme park and water park.
Follow along for a day of fun to Darien Lake, and remember AAA Members can save on Darien Lake theme park tickets.
The first step in enjoying a day at a theme park is getting there. We decided to take an alternative route to the theme park than our usual path, using our trusty AAA TripTik to guide us.
Hurricane Harbor
Our first stop was the Hurricane Harbor water park, where we enjoyed various attractions, including the kid-friendly Hook's Lagoon, the Flotation Station lazy river, the Crocodile Isle wave pool, and the Swirl City slide complex.
Rowdy's Ridge
Rowdy’s Ridge is another designated kids area. There are some great rides there that were suitable for both younger and older kids. My daughters really enjoyed the Hoot’N’ Holler roller coaster. Fun fact – this is the park's first roller coaster, debuting in 1981 as Ladybug. Another favorite was Moose on the Loose, a slow and silly ride suitable for all ages.
Big thrills
Make no mistake, Darien Lake is a thrill seeker's paradise, even if I’m not one to take on the towering rollercoasters and thrill rides. If you want an adrenaline fix, Blast Off, Tantrum, and the Mind Eraser are just a few of your choices for full throttle fun.
All the classics
Of course you’ll find classic “carnival” rides at Darien Lake, including the Sleigh Ride, the Hornet’s Nest, and the Haymaker, just to name a few. Don’t miss the Tin Lizzy’s, the slow and serene antique car ride.
More to come
Just because summer is on its way out doesn’t mean there isn’t lots of fun on the horizon this year at Darien Lake. Oktoberfest and Fright Fest are right around the corner, the perfect time for AAA Members to save on some fall fun.
