Travel bringing generations together

Bringing celebration and vacation together – that’s the travel trend sweeping the country right now as families look to create long-lasting memories.

Take the recent spring break, for example. Multigenerational travel, comprised of three generations, was up more than 40 percent compared to spring break 2022. It’s increasingly common to see grandma and grandpa with their kids and grandchildren enjoying travel opportunities and creating cherished memories.

While you may first envision such an outing at theme parks or lakeside retreats, international trips are also extremely popular. In fact, international travel was up 30 percent for spring break as families enjoyed cruises and Caribbean beach vacations. Yet, traditional international destinations were also popular – places like Rome, Paris, and London – where grandparents can give their grandchildren an educational opportunity while instilling an appreciation for history and culture.

No matter where families travel, the older generations often return feeling extremely rewarded after seeing various destinations through their family’s eyes. And the best part? The planning doesn’t fall on one family member because AAA’s expert travel advisors will take care of it all.

“Oftentimes, a grandparent may be celebrating retirement, and they want to bring the entire family along to mark the milestone. AAA makes it easy by planning a celebration that meets each traveler’s individual needs,” said Carol DiOrio, vice president of travel at AAA Western and Central New York.

“It’s a win-win for all ages, as everyone gains a new appreciation for family time and travel without the stress of planning.”

Summer is synonymous with family reunions, but many of those celebrations were put on hold during the pandemic, which means they are long overdue. “Now we’re seeing family reunions go from one-day backyard barbeques to weeklong immersive experiences as families realize the value of making memories together,” DiOrio said, noting that cruise vacations are popular. Traditional ocean cruises feature activities for all ages and include meals and entertainment, which is ideal for a large family vacation.

Travelers may prefer a villa vacation where the entire group enjoys a luxury property with upscale amenities like a private pool and movie theater. AAA Travel advisors can arrange villas across the globe with customized, unique experiences. Or maybe you’d prefer an international guided vacation or travel by train? If you can dream it, AAA can provide it.

With so many opportunities to travel together, which one will you choose?
