JJ Maute’s enthusiasm for cars goes beyond the road and onto YouTube, where he hosts Double J’s List. The channel is regularly updated with reviews, tips, and commentary on everything automotive, all from JJ’s budget-conscious, practical perspective. 

“I’ve always had a passion for cars. About a decade ago, I created a website for my own automotive blog,” Maute said. “About three years ago, after watching hours of automotive content on YouTube, I decided to have a go at it myself.”

An Orchard Park native, Maude’s channel highlights his interest in EVs. An owner of a 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV, Maute is a big fan of the electric motor, instant torque, and reduced maintenance, noise, and vibration that come with EVs.

Maute said there are still some public misconceptions about the cost and range of EVs. He pointed out that EV prices are becoming more affordable while featuring mileage ranges that should easily accommodate the average driver.

“I understand a lot of people’s apprehension about the transition to EV. I think a good choice for some would be a plug-in hybrid. It’s essentially dipping your toe into the pool of the EV experience,” Maute said. 

As a AAA Member who’s been behind the wheel of many cars, Maute has several “AAA to the rescue” stories, including a recent incident where his 2002 Lexus LX470 had lost its power steering fluid.

“I was afraid to drive it to the repair shop as it would be nearly impossible to steer and I didn’t want to cause damage to any steering components,” Maute said. “AAA had a flatbed in my driveway quickly, and it was dropped off at the repair shop without incident.”

Maute’s favorite AAA benefit is roadside assistance, although he’s been using AAA.com to save on rental cars with Hertz, he said.
