Next time you’re in a tight spot and need help from AAA, don’t be surprised to see the latest, and the most unique vehicle in our fleet show up to assist.

Now joining AAA’s fleet is the Ford Ranger LS (light service). This isn’t your average pickup truck—AAA’s new Ford Ranger LS has the capacity to tow certain vehicles.

Do you live in an area where the houses are seemingly on top of each other? Bad news: The typical super duty flatbeds probably aren’t getting in your backyard garage. That will be far less of an issue for the leaner Ford Ranger LS.

The Ford Ranger LS has low profile that can fit into the majority of parking garages, allowing it tow in confined spaces that present challenges to larger service vehicles.

The truck’s mechanical rapid deployment trailer activates at the press of a button, giving AAA technicians the new ability to tow with a light service vehicle. This saves time for members who will avoid waiting for an additional tow truck.

The Ford Ranger LS offers great configurability. The truck includes space for the driver and potentially three to four passengers thanks to a storage system that keeps all tools in the truck bed, including:

• Approximately 20 car batteries
• Air compressor
• Jack
• All necessary tools
• Potential for dolly wheels
• Storage for ancillary items

Todd Ingraham, AAA Western and Central New York fleet operations manager, said AAA anticipates using the Ford Ranger LS to increase service efficiencies, including potentially providing mobile EV charging.

“Given that these are new trucks and only utilized overseas they are really a blank canvas for us,” Ingraham said. “This flexibility will allow us to mold the Ranger LS into a very valuable and efficient service tool.”
