COVID-19 Travel Updates
COVID-19 Travel Updates
With information changing rapidly, AAA Western and Central New York is doing our best to keep our members informed amid the ongoing pandemic.
Here are some travel updates for Monday, March 23:
- While airlines are still operating, many have reduced schedules. Check with your travel agent or your airline beforehand. Several flights out of local airports were canceled as of this morning.
- Most airlines offering flexibility through May for cancellations and postponed travel. Many will offer a voucher for airfare to be used within a year.
- Norwegian Jewel cruise ship arrives in Hawaii – NCCL says no one on board has symptoms of COVID-19. Cruise passengers will be able to return home from the port.
- Disney closes Aulani Resort in Hawaii out of precaution surrounding the pandemic.
- Legoland reopens in Japan with new hand sanitizing stations and safety precautions in place.
- Gas prices are plummeting – the national average has dropped 25 cents over the past two weeks. Analysts expect prices to continue to drop possibly as low as $1.25 - $1.50 per gallon by May as oil prices fall due to COVID-19 and a price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia.
With information changing rapidly and, in an effort to keep the public informed, AAA will share the latest information with radio host Roger Christian each weekday morning on WECK Buffalo. These segments run at 8:35 a.m. with an earlier segment on Thursdays at 8:15 a.m. Please note that there may be more cancellations and suspensions since this was published as the situation continues to evolve quickly. Concerned travelers should always reach out to their travel consultant for the latest information.
When AAA Western and Central New York receives notifications, the travel department immediately pulls a list of all travelers on that itinerary and proactively reaches out to them to assist with their travel needs.
AAA is here for travelers before, during and after their trip and throughout this pandemic.
