COVID-19 Travel Updates on AAA Talking Travel
Did you know that our Club has a weekly radio program called AAA Talking Travel? Topics usually feature: travel destinations and opportunities, covers the travel industry, and provides tips and information for travelers. However, considering the recent ever-evolving situation regarding COVID-19 and travel, AAA Western and Central New York is doing our best to keep members informed amid the ongoing pandemic.
AAA Talking Travel hosts Brian Murray, director of travel and Elizabeth Carey, director of public relations—with host Roger Christian—are now broadcasting the show every weekday morning on WECK! The segments, which run at 8:35 a.m. with an earlier show on Thursdays at 8:15 a.m., will use the program to focus on COVID-19, to answer travelers’ questions and discuss the current travel restrictions in place.
In the Friday, March 20th segment, AAA shared the following details:
- Disney - following the closure of Disney parks and cruises, all Disney hotels will now close effective 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20.
- Florida - all hotels in the Florida Keys, including rental properties, will close indefinitely at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22.
- American Airlines - American Airlines is temporarily suspending service between the Americas, the Caribbean and the U.S. (with the exception of Panama) through May 31.
- Delta - Delta Air Lines is extending its waiver to assist customers impacted by the impacted by the Coronavirus.
- Oberammergau - the 42nd Oberammergau Passion Play will be postponed due to the current situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic. This world-famous play is held only once per decade in the German city of Oberammergau in the Bavarian region and was slated for 2020. It is very popular with tourists across the globe and has been postponed to the year 2022.
Please note that there may be more cancellations and suspensions since this was published as the situation continues to evolve quickly.
