When will travel resume? It’s the question everyone is asking! While some communities are opening up, most travel remains on hold and the CDC recommends avoiding any non-essential travel for now. AAA Western and Central New York has seen a new trend with an influx in people reaching out asking for directions to New York State Parks, such as Alleghany and Letchworth, so that they can go there to walk and enjoy nature and social distancing. 

When restrictions are lifted, AAA expects road trips to be the first segment of travel to rebound with travelers taking one tank getaways, followed by short weekend trips, and extending into longer escapes to drive-able destinations. With such destinations as the Lake George Scenic Byway, Acadia National Park in Maine, Civil War sites of Gettysburg and Antietam to the Smoky Mountains or closer to home destinations as the Finger Lakes, the Thousand Islands and Corning, there is something for everyone.

AAA does expect a pent-up demand for travel this summer and fall. With so many vacations disrupted, travelers are advised to plan future trips now as inventory will be limited through 2021.
