What to keep in your car emergency kit
Whether you're preparing for your next road trip or the next season, it's a good idea to take inventory of the items in your car emergency kit. AAA recommends having an emergency kit in your vehicle and advises replenishing any depleted items as needed.
Your local AAA branch carries a 42-piece Premium Road Kit that includes many of the emergency items that you should keep on-hand to stay safe.
The kit includes booster cables, a flashlight and batteries, general first aid, a 2-in-1 screwdriver, duct tape, emergency poncho, shop cloth, 5 cable ties, 20 bandages, 4 towelettes, reusable zipper lock bag, AAA Membership brochure, and AAA accident guidelines.
Besides the items included in the road kit, it's recommended that you keep the following items in your car during the winter:
- Cell phone & car charger
- Blanket
- Drinking water/snacks for everyone in the car including pets
- Car emergency warning devices such as road flares or reflectors
- Ice scraper/snow brush
- Traction aid such as sand, salt or non-clumping cat litter
- Tarp, raincoat & gloves
- Shovel
