Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party: A guide from AAA
There’s no place quite as magical as Disney—especially when it’s transformed for Halloween! If you're ready for an unforgettable night full of spooky fun, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) is the perfect place to make memories that will last a lifetime. This event takes places Aug 9 – Oct 31, 2024. Whether you're a Disney first-timer or a seasoned fan, here’s our not-so-scary guide, with some personal tips to help make your visit a little extra magical.
Park access & parade times
Although the party officially starts at 7pm, your MNSSHP ticket gives you access as early as 4pm! This is perfect for taking advantage of extra time in the park before the Halloween festivities begin. Pro Tip: Don’t miss the Boo-To-You Halloween Parade! There are two showings—8:15pm and 11:15pm. The later parade has smaller crowds, making it worth staying up for if you can. We went to the late one and felt like we got to experience a lot before the parade even started!
What to do before the parade:
- Prioritize meeting your favorite characters in their Halloween costumes. Jack Skellington and Sally were personal favorites—such a cool photo op!
- Be on the lookout for your favorite villains, like the Evil Queen and Cruella de Vil, along with some not-so-scary friends, like Winnie the Pooh.
- Don’t miss the Hitchhiking Ghosts—you can find them in Frontierland before the parade.
- Take in all the spooky decorations and snap some photos.
- Knock out a few rides while the lines are shorter. We hit Tiana’s Bayou Adventure right at sunset and caught some stunning views.
- Start your trick-or-treating early and grab some exclusive Halloween treats.
Must-do rides
Whether you get to the park early or get in line while the earlier parade is taking place, it’s the perfect time to enjoy your favorite attractions. We loved Tiana’s Bayou Adventure for the amazing views at sunset—plus it was a refreshing way to cool down after a hot day. The Mad Tea Party had a Halloween makeover, complete with themed overlay, and we got to meet the Queen of Hearts, Mad Hatter and Alice!
Tasty Halloween treats
Prepare for some epic snacks! Madame Leota’s Séance Candle (red velvet cake with cookies and cream mousse) at Sleepy Hollow is a must-try. For something savory, the Bowl of Bones at Friar’s Nook (fried wings with Coca-Cola BBQ sauce) hit the spot. Sweet tooth? The Chocolate-Caramel Tart at Golden Oak Outpost was decadent. We also couldn’t resist the Witch’s Hat treat at Starbucks and special candy bars from the Confectionary. Don’t be shy—grab one of each!
Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular
We also had the delight of catching the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, hosted by the infamous Sanderson Sisters from Disney's Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2. This musical extravaganza is a must-see, filled with enchanting performances that bring some of your favorite Disney villains to life under the stars. Make sure to check the show times: from Aug 9-Sept 28, performances are at 9:05pm, 10:35pm, and 12am, while from Sept 29-Oct 31, you can catch the show at 7:35pm, 9:05pm, 10:35pm, and 12amm. It’s a spellbinding experience you won’t want to miss!
Trick-or-treating
Trick-or-treating isn’t just for kids! You’ll receive a treat bag when you enter, and for those with allergies, there are special bags and treat centers with allergy-friendly options. Keep an eye out for glowing towers marking each candy stop, and don’t worry—the lines move fast. Fun tip: The candy haul is so big; you might need to leave room in your suitcase to bring it all home!
Exclusive merch
Love Disney merch? MNSSHP has tons of exclusive goodies, like glow-in-the-dark Spirit Jerseys and Mickey ears, mugs, and more. We couldn’t resist grabbing a TikTok-famous Mickey wreath and a Halloween Loungefly bag.
Shopping tip: if your suitcase is already packed to the brim, Disney can ship your items straight to your home!
Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular
We also caught the Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular fireworks show from Main Street while we waited for the parade, and it was breathtaking! With dazzling fireworks, lasers, and projections, the show transforms Cinderella’s Castle with spooky overlays that light up the night.
The special effects and music create a magical atmosphere that’s truly one-of-a-kind. The fireworks kick off at 10pm on event nights, and trust us, it’s an experience not to be missed!
Boo-To-You Parade
The Boo-To-You Parade was hands down our favorite part of the night! It starts in Frontierland and winds its way to Main Street, where we scored the best spot on the sidewalk about an hour before showtime. A cast member told us that Main Street is prime parade-watching real estate, and they were right! While waiting, we did a little shopping at the Emporium and grabbed some treats from the Main Street Confectionery. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Headless Horseman—he trots by about 10 minutes before the parade begins.
Pro Tip: Before the parade, don’t miss Max’s Powerline Dance Party! It’s a fun way to get pumped up before the spooky procession begins.
