With information changing rapidly, AAA Western and Central New York is working to keep members and the public informed amid the ongoing pandemic.

Here are some COVID-19 and travel updates as of Thursday, April 16th:

  • Insurance carriers recognize that many policyholders are doing their best to stop the spread of COVID-19 by staying home. That means many people are driving fewer miles, resulting in a decrease in auto claims. Most auto insurance carriers are offering a 15% to 20% credit on two months of premiums. Many are also being flexible regarding late payments. The credits are automatically applied to policies, but anyone with questions should contact their insurance agent.
  • April snow! With cold temperatures and snow in some areas, AAA Automotive is reminding drivers to drive their vehicles to keep the batteries in good working condition. Use caution as roads may be slick. If your vehicle won’t start, AAA offers Mobile Battery Service right in your driveway with social distancing in place.

Travel updates - many cruise lines and travel companies are suspending travel through June:

  • Princess has cancelled all cruises and cruisetours through June 30; additional select sailings in Europe through July 31; and Alaska lodges, trains and buses operated by Princess in Alaska will not open this summer.
  • Member Choice Vacations has extended suspension through June 30 (previously announced suspension to China through Aug 31; 2020 Oberammegau Passion Play postponed).
  • Trafalgar has notified the cancellation of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo due to the ongoing global health crisis.
  • Holland America cruises are postponed through June 30.
  • Tauck cruises are postponed through June 30.
  • Carnival has extended suspension all sailings through June 26 with extensions noted below:
    • All San Francisco sailings through 2020
    • All Carnival Sunrise sailings through and including October 19, 2020
    • All Carnival Legend sailings through and including October 30, 2020
    • All Carnival Radiance sailings through and including November 1, 2020

With information changing rapidly and, in an effort, to keep the public informed, AAA will share the latest information each weekday morning on WECK Buffalo. These segments run at 8:35 a.m. with an earlier segment on Thursdays at 8:15 a.m.

Please note that there may be more cancellations and suspensions since this was published as the situation continues to evolve quickly. Concerned travelers should always reach out to their travel consultant for the latest information. When AAA Western and Central New York receives notifications, the travel department immediately pulls a list of all travelers on that itinerary and proactively reaches out to them to assist with their travel needs.

AAA is here for travelers before, during and after their trip and throughout this pandemic.
