Fall Brings More Falling Gas Prices

Prices drop 15 cents in past month
All Regions

Today's national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $2.46 per gallon, down a penny since last week. One year ago today, the price was $2.22. The New York State average is $2.64, down three cents in the last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $2.37.

AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

  • Buffalo - $2.66 (down 2 cents in past week)
  • Rochester - $2.54 (down 5 cents in past week)
  • Rome - $2.60 (down 4 cents in past week)
  • Syracuse - $2.45 (down 3 cents in past week)

Today's national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $2.46 per gallon, which is two cents less than last week, 15 cents less than one month ago, and 23 cents more than last year. The latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) report showed that gasoline stocks continue to rise across the nation. Drivers are benefiting from the drop in demand. With the fall driving season in full swing, drivers are likely to continue seeing prices drop through the end of the month.

All of this data points toward weak domestic demand for crude, as drivers opt out of long road trips at this point in fall. With oil teetering around $51 per barrel, the price is unlikely to have a major impact on the price drivers pay at the pump. In order for it to be more impactful on pump prices, the price per barrel of oil will need to rise sharply over the coming weeks and months.
