The Crunch has been the top affiliate of the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning since the 2012-13 season.  Since the start of the affiliation with Tampa Bay, 36 players have appeared in games for both the Crunch and Lightning. In 2010, the Crunch hosted the American Hockey League's inaugural outdoor game. Held at the New York State Fairgrounds, the Mirabito Outdoor Classic drew more than 21,000 fans. The Crunch once again made history by holding the first-ever hockey game in Syracuse University's iconic Carrier Dome in 2014. The Toyota Frozen Dome Classic broke the indoor professional hockey attendance record in the United States, drawing 30,715 fans. In 2016, the Crunch hosted the AHL's marquee event, the All-Star Classic for the second time in the club's history.
