AAA Develops New Training Class for Parents of Teen Drivers

“Teaching Your Teens to Drive” takes a train-the-trainer approach to driving instruction

November 18, 2010 – AAA Western and Central New York has developed an educational four-hour course for parents of new teen drivers. Teaching Your Teens to Drive is designed to guide parents through the complex and demanding learning-to-drive process, while giving them the opportunity to be trained like AAA driving instructors.

Over two evening sessions, AAA’s safe driving experts will equip parents with the insight and tools needed to successfully instruct a novice driver. The sessions take place on November 30th and December 2nd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at three regional AAA locations.

  • AAA Amherst Travel and Insurance Center, 100 International Drive, Williamsville, N.Y. 14221
  • AAA Penfield Travel and Insurance Center, 2156 Penfield Road, Penfield, N.Y. 14526
  • AAA Liverpool Administration Center, 7485 Henry Clay Boulevard, Liverpool, N.Y. 13088

Parents attending Teaching Your Teens to Drive will learn how to give positive feedback, become an effective role model, give constructive criticism, and recognize and correct unsafe driving habits. DMV procedures, including graduated driver licensing, road test tips and how to correctly complete required documents will also be covered.

Attendees will receive in-depth instruction and coaching techniques, a training handbook, AAA practice driving log, and a DVD containing 13 innovative and proven driving lessons.

The cost to attend is $60.00 for AAA members and $70.00 for non-members, per family. As an added bonus, parents enrolling their student in AAA’s Licensed to Learn driver education program receive $20.00 off the Teaching Your Teens to Drive course.
