AAA & Mount Mercy Academy Team to Offer Summer Driver Education
Formal teen driver education enhances the safety of everyone on the road

BUFFALO, N.Y., June 10, 2009 – AAA Western and Central New York is pleased to continue its partnership with Mount Mercy Academy to offer driver education to all area students starting Monday, July 6, 2009. AAA has been providing driver education services to students at Mount Mercy Academy for two years; however, this is the first summer program offering.
According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of teens, claiming more than 6,000 15- to 20-year-olds each year. Many of these deadly crashes are due to immaturity and lack of driving experience and safety knowledge, factors that can be addressed by formal driver education.
“Driver education is crucial to the development of safe driving habits for novice drivers, and we understand the challenges teen drivers face,” said Mike Formanowicz, Manager of AAA Driver Programs. “Teen driver training benefits new drivers and all those who share the road.”
AAA innovative Licensed to Learn program will provide teens with up-to-date instruction and video technology in the classroom that coincides with in-car driving lessons to reinforce the educational objectives of the program.
Two separate driver education sessions will be held at Mount Mercy Academy. The first session begins July 6, 2009, while the second session starts August 3, 2009. Both sessions are open to all students in the area, regardless of their school district. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, July 1, 2009. For more information or to register, contact Mount Mercy Academy at (716) 825-8796.
