Fairport, NY: The Crown Jewel of the Erie Canal

When members come in looking for a quick couples’ getaway, one of the places I like to recommend is Fairport, a Rochester-area village known as the “Crown Jewel of the Erie Canal.”

A lifelong Western New Yorker, Kathy Hare started working at AAA as an Auto Travel counselor in 1986. This blog is an excerpt from her upcoming story in the next issue of Member Connection magazine. (Read her other post about Watkins Glen!)

Each June, Fairport’s Canal Days festival attracts artists and exhibitors from all over the country, but now is still a great time to enjoy the scenic canal with a cruise on board the Colonial Belle. Cruises are scheduled through October, so call ahead now and remember to ask for your AAA member discount.

When you’re ready to rest and unwind, the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa is a great place to stay. This beautiful AAA Three Diamond property offers a secluded retreat with a 9-hole golf course, hilltop views and dining at its Horizons Restaurant.

Here are a few pictures, courtesy of the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa, that can give you an idea of what you can expect:

While you’re there you may want to pamper yourself at the Woodcliff’s Spa Elan. If you are planning to visit the spa, I suggest you make those reservations first before booking your room, to ensure you’ll get an appointment during your stay.

AAA can help you find a hotel and make your reservations: Just give us a call at 800-836-2582 or click here.

Great

Good morning I think your blog is quite nice!

Fairport

I like Fairport, but I've never heard it called the "Crown Jewel of the Erie Canal" and I've lived in the next town over my whole life. Also, the Woodcliff is in the town of Perinton on the border of Victor, not in the village of Fairport which is on the canal
