Get your teen started driving safely
with Licensed to Learn, a 5-hour
pre-licensing course and more.

AAA offers more driver education options for teen drivers.

AAA Licensed to Learn Driver Education Program

AAA’s exclusive driver education program provides 30 hours of classroom instruction and 10 45-minute behind-the-wheel lessons one-on-one with a certified driving instructor.

In-School Driver Education

Local area high schools have chosen to partner with AAA to offer high-quality driver education modeled after AAA’s exclusive Licensed to Learn curriculum, providing 24 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours behind the wheel with a certified driving instructor.

Defensive Driving

This course teaches you how to proactively avoid, and react calmly in, stressful driving situations. After completion, you may be eligible to reduce up to 4 points from your driving record and may also receive a 10% reduction on portions of your insurance.

5-Hour Pre-Licensing Course

Completion of this course earns an MV-278 certificate, which is required to take the State Road Test. For the road test, it’s also required that a parent or guardian certify that at least 50 hours of practice behind the wheel have been completed.

A course is available almost every weekend and covers the following driving fundamentals:

  • The DMV point system
  • The highway transportation system
  • The laws of physics as they relate to driving and the effects of restraining devices
  • Defensive driving techniques
  • What to do in case of a collision
  • The effects of driver attitude, emotions and skills
  • Alcohol and drugs and their effect on driving

NOTE: The MV-278 certificate number is required to schedule a road test, and the certificate must be presented to the examiner on the day of the test.
